PLAN supports the
Need For Control
campaign targeting teens at 12 of the largest Sonoma County high schools. Monthly rallies
at each school will promote safe teen driving with the goals to reduce speed and distractions
Do you know about the California Provisional License Law? If you are a teen driver or the parent of one,
this site is for you.
The California Provisional Driver License Law was created to prevent car crashes among teenagers ages 16-18.
By requiring certain "provisions," the law aims to reduce teens' exposure to the most dangerous conditions, such
as driving after 11:00 p.m. and driving with their friends in the car. Scientific research shows that these are
the situations when crashes involving teens are more likely to happen.
Parents have an essential role in shaping their teen's driving attitudes and behaviors. The PLAN website is designed
to give parents the information they need to be actively involved in helping their teen become a safe and responsible
driver.
Check out the Tips sections to create a driving contract with your teen or the Resources section for classes
available in Sonoma County for new teen drivers.
Driving siblings to or from school for convenience does not qualify as an exception to the law.
See the Law section for more details.
